No one doubts that Americans have lost faith in our government bureaucracy and the news media. The Pew Research Center, as well as other polls, confirm that public trust in the government has cratered, as shown in the image above. It rebounded during the Reagan and Clinton presidencies but has remained very low (~22%) since the George W. Bush presidency.
The media fairs no better, according to Gallup only 31% trust the news media a great deal or a fair amount, which is an all-time low. Below are some of the more obvious reasons why these institutions have lost the public’s trust. It is not meant to be a comprehensive list, just a list of the most obvious and egregious examples of government and news media lies and disinformation.
- President Joe Biden’s administration said they could not enforce the southern border without fresh legislation from Congress. That proved untrue.
- The COVID “vaccine” stopped transmission of the virus, that we had to keep six feet apart because “science” told us so, that we needed only 15 days to slow the spread, and that the government did not pressure social media companies to censor people who gave dissenting opinions. All of those things proved untrue.
- Covid likely did come from the Wuhan laboratory according to the CIA and the House of Representatives. This is also the conclusion of the FBI.
- The Wuhan lab was partially funded by the NIAID (one of the 27 Institutes in NIH) through the EcoHealth Alliance. We reported on this in April 2020. This is after Anthony Fauci famously said “the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”
- How about the YouTube video that Hillary Clinton said supposedly triggered the slaughter at Benghazi? From a survivor of the Benghazi attack, Mark Geist: “People are making decisions and not listening to the guys and gals on the ground … And that’s what they should be doing. You can’t fight a war from Washington, D.C.” Hillary Clinton directly stopped a rescue ordered by Obama.
- The FBI had sex tapes of Democrat mayors sleeping with a Chinese spy and kept them hidden. They knew Eric Swalwell was sleeping with a Chinese spy and kept it hidden. They had Hunter Biden’s laptop, kept it hidden, and lied about its contents.
- A top associate of Sen. John McCain deliberately leaked the Steele dossier (funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the DNC) to Buzzfeed. The FBI knew it was fake, but used the Buzzfeed article to justify a FISA warrant to surveil Carter Page. They also lied to the FISA Court judge that a reporter (Michael Isikoff) had independently confirmed the Steele dossier, when he had not. The FBI fabricated conclusions from the Steele Dossier fabrications and turned them into sworn representations before the powerful Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA).
- Weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? No.
- The Waco massacre? Branch Davidian’s did not shoot down any helicopters. Basically it was a major screw up and the FBI lied trying to cover up mistakes, which made everything worse.
- Trump supposedly committed a “crime” by entering into a non-disclosure agreement with a porn star, but no one, including both the prosecutor and the judge, could explain the crime he was being accused of and he was decisively acquitted by a jury of 77 million voters that clearly had no faith in the justice system. The judge and prosecutor tried to claim that Trump’s payment to his lawyer was coded incorrectly as a legal expense???
- Trump supposedly had an illegal phone call with the president of Ukraine because he asked him to look into a possible crime by his political opponent, he was acquitted and the inappropriate relationship between Hunter and Joe Biden with criminals in Ukraine was exposed. Critical evidence was withheld during Trump’s impeachment hearings, which was a very serious constitutional violation.
- The “Russia, Russia, Russia” collusion case. Trump was exonerated by the Robert Mueller investigation which found no evidence that Trump or any of his aides coordinated with the Russian government’s 2016 election interference.
- The supposed “insurrection” of January 6, 2021, which was obviously nothing of the kind. The obvious misuse (both legally and via the dictionary) of the term insurrection just caused a lack of trust.
- 51 intelligence officials signed a letter that claimed Hunter’s laptop “had all the classic earmarks of a Russian [dis]information operation,” they lied and have not apologized. Biden Secretary of State Anthony Blinken organized the letter.
- Numerous media outlets lied about what Trump said in the “fine people on both sides” hoax.
- Biden is sharp as a tack and the special counsel criticism is B.S. The media and bureaucracy lied, and said videos claiming otherwise were cheap fakes.
- Kamala Harris: About the Afghanistan withdrawl, “President Biden made the courageous and right decision to end America’s longest war.” Marine General Kenneth McKenzie, in charge of Central Command at the time: “I think [Vladimir] Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was directly driven by this. I think the Chinese were emboldened as a result of it. … I think ISIS-K flourishes now in Afghanistan.”
- President Biden: “Let me be clear: Climate change is an emergency.” In reality there is no climate emergency.
- The Justice Department’s inspector general found no evidence to support President Donald Trump’s claim that the FBI inserted spies in his 2016 presidential campaign, The New York Times reported on Wednesday. “Comey violated FBI’s own rule book by using Trump campaign spy.” The spy who wasn’t, was Stefan Halper.

Back in 2009 a Chinese analyst by the name of Tang Shiping wrote a report on the Ukraine problem that proved to be prescient. Its here: https://www.eastisread.com/p/ukraine-as-a-solution-2009-by-tang?r=11eqm
Extract:
“America has been busy driving wedges among European states. Rumsfeld’s infamous calling the “Old Europe” as things of the past whereas the “New Europe” the future precisely reflects this strategic logic. By installing military bases in some of the “New Europe” states here and there, America has been making sure that there will always be some European states that value their ties to America more than their ties to the EU, thus dividing Europe into two camps effortlessly. Needless to say, such a strategy also achieves the ends of containing and humiliating Russia, thus further, if not permanently, dividing Europe.
The EU – or more precisely, France and Germany – must put a stop to this U.S./NATO way of approaching European affairs, if they want to avoid making Russia their permanent enemy. Berlin and Paris have to speak loud and clear: when it comes to European affairs, they will take charge, although Washington will be consulted. Fundamentally, Berlin and Paris must demand that when it comes to making a choice, European states – “Old” or “New” – will have to choose EU over NATO.
So far, however, Berlin and Paris have been reluctant to force other European states to choose, because they themselves do not want to make a hard choice. By allowing NATO to push further and further toward Russia and doing nothing to stop the process, Berlin and Paris have been willing accomplices to Washington’s drive to contain and humiliate Russia. Paris and Berlin have been hoping that Russia will simply swallow all its pride and all the bitter pills.”
I guess the logic is that the Europeans need to be friendly with each other, bury old attitudes and further disarm, or if they want to keep Russia out in the cold, they will need to re-arm. It seems that Trump is offering them that choice. It seems also that the US decision to not assist Gorbachev to get the Russian economy on track was fatally flawed, as Geoffrey Sachs maintains.
